Funding progress

Since 1955, Auckland Medical Research Foundation has been funding the people and ideas moving medical science forward – investing over $100 million in a wide range of research.
 

As an independent charitable trust, we are uniquely positioned – guided by expert volunteer governance, supported by generous donors, and committed to funding research of the highest scientific excellence.


Our key focus is financially supporting medical researchers and their projects led out of the greater Auckland region, assisting in furthering their international collaborations and gaining invaluable off-shore knowledge along with repatriating medical researchers and scientists back to New Zealand.

Our operating expenses are met by a separate endowerment fund, established by the Goodfellow family, so our supporters are confident that every dollar donated goes directly into enabling researchers to focus on what truly matters: delivering better health outcomes for everyone.​ 

 

From finding cures and preventing or delaying the onset of disease, to easing the burden of debilitating conditions and improving the quality of people's lives, every breakthrough begins with research.

Our Foundation's commitment is to support medical researchers in their vital work, and this comes in all shapes and sizes:

  • Providing funding for specific research projects across the spectrum of medical and health sciences
    ​

  • Providing grants for researchers to attend conferences (virtually or in-person) and build local, national and international collaborations
    ​

  • Awarding doctoral scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships for our young and upcoming researchers
     

  • Providing repatriation fellowships to ensure the best of our research talent returns to our homeland.

Our donors help us fund researchers to do what they do best – medical and health research

Our donors tell us they love the fact 100% of their donation goes directly into finding solutions to treat and prevent all sorts of diseases, conditions and disorders.

It's important to give our donors the highest level of confidence in our research funding process and that's why our selection standards have been gold standard ever since our inception. We cannot thank the highly qualified and experienced clinicians and scientists enough for the gift of their time to serve on our Medical Committee.

While many researchers receive government funding for their work, we know it is never sufficient. Our support provides vital seed funding to ensure research not only starts, but also progresses beyond the initial investigation stage.
