As 2025 draws to a close, the Auckland Medical Research Foundation (AMRF) celebrates a year of groundbreaking discoveries, global collaborations, and unwavering support for New Zealand’s brightest scientific minds. From asthma prediction tools to neurodegenerative disease research, AMRF-funded projects are shaping the future of health and medical research.

Highlights include:


  • Global Impact: Associate Professor Amy Chan developed an AI-powered asthma risk tool and is now collaborating with Oxford to advance digital therapeutics.

  • 70 Years Strong: AMRF celebrated seven decades of impact and $100M in research funding, partnering with AUT and the University of Auckland to push boundaries in medical research.

  • Future Leaders: New fellowship tiers doubled applications, supporting researchers like Dr Alice McDouall (perinatal brain injury), Dr Priyanka Agarwal (lung injury prevention), and Dr Molly Swanson (motor neuron disease).
